Tashkent city administration, World Bank discuss cooperation in public transport
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of World Bank led by its regional manager for Central Asia, China and Mongolia Binyam Reja held talks with officials of Tashkent city khokimiyat and Toshshahartranshizmat (Tashkent city Transport Service).
The sides discussed issues of creating a strategy for a unified public transport management system.
The parties noted the timeliness and relevance of the meeting and that the capital’s khokimiyat is doing a lot in improving the infrastructure of the city. But the urban transport sector is an area, where further improvements are needed.
At the meeting, representatives of the World Bank told about the tools that they could use in this field and experience gained in different countries of the world.
In addition, several options for cooperation were discussed. The guests stressed that now their group is engaged in projects in the sector of roads and railways and are considering the possibility of rendering assistance in improving urban transport in Tashkent.
“It is necessary that urban transport is more preferable to the population than private cars and people traveled by public transport, not because they do not have a car, but because it is most convenient,” Binyam Reja said.
