Chery started where startups usually don't — in Wuhu, an industrial city in Anhui province, far from any auto-show spotlight. The year was 1997. And from day one the company placed a bet that looked risky at the time: skip the joint ventures with Western giants and build everything — from the engine to the brand — on its own.

The bet paid off. Serial production began in 1999, and by 2001 Chery had already shipped its first cars abroad. Today that's more than 80 countries on the map, a place in China's top 10 automakers by sales, and the title of China's largest exporter — held for more than 20 years running. The 2023 record: over 930,000 vehicles exported.

Behind those export numbers sit five R&D centers in China, Germany, the US, Brazil, and Austria, and more than 7,000 engineers working on powertrains, platforms, autonomous driving, and PHEV/DHT hybrid tech.

In 2020, the company launched the global With Chery With Love (WCWL) initiative — not a marketing campaign, but a platform of social, environmental, and educational projects spanning dozens of countries.

Today, 17 automotive brands sit under Chery's wing, and the core lineup familiar to the Kazakhstan market is genuinely diverse: Chery, EXEED, Omoda, Jaecoo, Jetour, Kaiyi (50%), Karry, Rely, Riich, Qoros (50%), iCar, Luxeed, and Chery Jaguar Land Rover (50%). Each has its own niche, but all share the same engineering school, where autonomous driving, smart navigation, and OTA updates have long been standard, not futuristic add-ons.
