Geely Automobile is one of China's largest automakers, with a history dating to 1986. Headquartered in Hangzhou, the company started out making refrigeration equipment and components. In 1994 it moved into scooters, and by 1997 it had entered the auto industry, building its own cars. In 2001, Geely received a manufacturing license, becoming the first private company in China officially allowed to operate in the sector.
Geely's strategic acquisitions loom large in its story: in 2010 it bought Volvo Cars, preserving the unique heritage and technology of the Swedish brand; in 2012 LEVC — the storied maker of London's black cabs — came under Geely's control. Today Geely holds a striking brand portfolio: Volvo, LEVC, Lynk & Co, Geometry, Polestar, Proton, Lotus, Smart, and ZEEKR — confirming its status as a global industry player.
Geely invests heavily in education, funding its own schools and research centers to train the next generation of engineers, designers, and managers for the auto industry. And it doesn't stop at cars: among its achievements is the launch of the "Geely-02" satellite constellation, supporting navigation, communication, and autonomous-driving technology worldwide — a space program helping build the future of safe, smart mobility.
