Special Commission Warns of Possible Short-Term Dust Storms in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — According to forecasts from the Regional Centres of the World Meteorological Organization for Sand and Dust Storms in Beijing and Saudi Arabia, as well as data from the Hydrometeorological Service of Uzbekistan, brief deterioration in air quality may occur in Tashkent on 27 May due to possible dust storms ahead of incoming moist air masses from the west.
Specialists report that variable cloudiness is expected during the day, with occasional short-term rain and thunderstorms. Winds will mainly blow from the west at 3–8 meters per second, with occasional strengthening to 10–12 meters per second, and up to 15 meters per second in some areas. Under these conditions, localized dust storms may form.
It is noted that atmospheric dust concentration, particularly PM10 particles, may temporarily increase due to these weather processes. However, incoming moist air masses and precipitation are expected to gradually improve air quality.
Residents are advised to take precautions during periods of strong winds, especially individuals with respiratory conditions, allergies, and cardiovascular diseases.
Recommendations include limiting prolonged outdoor activity, keeping windows and doors closed, and using protective masks when necessary.
The Special Commission continues to monitor air quality conditions in the capital on a continuous basis.
