Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia Discuss New Healthcare Projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia discussed new healthcare projects, including construction of a medical complex in Ferghana, localisation of pharmaceutical production, development of telemedicine and the introduction of digital solutions. The meeting was held on 27 July in a roundtable format with representatives from both countries.

Uzbekistan was represented by Tamila Aliyeva, deputy head of the Presidential Administration for healthcare reform, Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojayev, heads of relevant ministries and agencies, and representatives of major medical centres. The Saudi delegation was led by Health Minister Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel.

One of the key projects is the construction of a modern 800-bed multidisciplinary hospital in Ferghana with the participation of Vision International Investment Company. The facility is planned to form the basis of Fergana Plus medical city, which will include medical and educational centres as well as a hotel complex.

In the pharmaceutical sector, production is planned to be localised jointly with Jamjoom Pharma and Sudair Pharma.

Cooperation with SEHA Virtual Hospital is expected to focus on virtual healthcare and telemedicine. Together with Lean Business Services, the sides plan to introduce digital healthcare and artificial intelligence solutions.

In addition, with the participation of Health Holding, the management of medical institutions is planned to be improved. Support from NUPCO will focus on developing centralised procurement and medical logistics.

Another area of cooperation will be health insurance. Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia plan to consider introducing modern insurance mechanisms jointly with Saudi Arabia’s National Health Insurance Center.

Following the roundtable, the sides expressed confidence that implementing the planned projects and initiatives would contribute to improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare services for the population.
