Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan Expand Cooperation Across Key Sectors
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to expand cooperation in agriculture, geological exploration, energy, building materials production and transport, Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov said in an interview with Uzbekistan 24, commenting on the results of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit to Kyrgyzstan.
According to the minister, the two sides agreed on a number of joint projects to be implemented in Kyrgyzstan.
The agreements include the establishment of a cattle breeding cluster, rice and potato cultivation projects, and the development of building materials production. Uzbek businesses are already implementing projects to manufacture aluminium profiles, polymer products and dry construction mixes.
Geological exploration will become a new area of cooperation. Kudratov said Uzbekistan's профиль ministries and specialized companies plan to carry out geological exploration in Kyrgyzstan using their accumulated expertise.
Priority areas of cooperation also include the energy sector, participation in the Kambarata hydropower project and the development of small-scale energy facilities.
The minister said construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway is progressing ahead of schedule. The two countries also agreed to create more favorable conditions for cargo transit, handling and customs clearance.
Following the Uzbek-Kyrgyz business forum, the parties signed documents and reached agreements on investment projects and trade contracts worth more than US$1.5 billion.
Kudratov also highlighted the positive dynamics of bilateral trade. He said trade turnover between the two countries increased by 45% since the beginning of 2026 to reach US$624.6 million. Bilateral trade totaled US$1.2 billion in 2025, up 37% from US$874.7 million in 2024.
The minister said the two sides had already identified additional product categories, product ranges, exporters and importers that will contribute to further expanding bilateral trade.
According to Kudratov, the state visit of Uzbekistan's president to Kyrgyzstan marks an important stage in the development of bilateral relations.
Following the talks, the two heads of state signed the Treaty on Allied Relations between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation in energy, trade and logistics.
