Senator Seeks Update on Farish–Nurata Road Project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Senator Khusan Ermatov has sent an inquiry to the Minister of Transport requesting information on the progress of the reconstruction of the Farish–Nurata highway, the project's completion timeline and measures to reduce traffic pressure on the Tashkent–Samarkand highway.

The inquiry states that the expansion of public holidays and days off, initiated by the president to support domestic tourism and leisure activities, has highlighted a number of transport-related problems.

According to the senator, many citizens are forced to spend a significant portion of their holidays travelling between Tashkent and other regions of the country.

Particular attention was drawn to road conditions in the direction of Jizzakh, Samarkand, Navoi, Bukhara and Khorezm regions. The inquiry notes that even trips to areas relatively close to the capital often take between six and eight hours. Additional difficulties are caused by repair works on certain sections of highways, where temporary one-way traffic arrangements have been introduced.

The senator recalled that a major project to repair the Nurata–Farish road was announced in early 2025, but information on the current status of the work has not yet been provided.

According to the inquiry, the modernisation of the Farish–Nurata road is important not only for residents of Navoi region but also for thousands of motorists from Karakalpakstan, Khorezm and Bukhara regions travelling to Tashkent.

The route is expected to help redistribute traffic flows, reduce pressure on the Samarkand–Tashkent highway and ease congestion that regularly occurs in the Gallaaral district.

The Ministry of Transport has therefore been asked to provide substantiated information on the timeline for completing the road reconstruction project, its future traffic capacity and the specific measures being taken to address congestion on the Tashkent–Samarkand highway, in addition to the project to build a new toll road.
