Tashkent Treats Pest-Infested Plane Trees in Yunusabad

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Specialists have begun treating plane trees in the Billur mahalla of Tashkent's Yunusabad district after residents reported tree diseases near apartment buildings. Following reports circulated on social media, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change took the situation under control.

A joint inspection of the area was conducted by three municipal authorities: the Tashkent City Main Department of Ecology, the Department for Quarantine and Plant Protection, and the Capital Main Department of Development. According to their findings, several species of pests were identified on the plane trees.

"Necessary explanations and recommendations were provided regarding this matter. Currently, measures are being taken to rid the trees of pests," said Azizkhuja Khamrokhodjaev, phytosanitary control inspector for the Yunusabad District Plant Protection and Quarantine Department.

The department noted that determining measures to protect plants from harmful organisms falls under the direct competence of state plant quarantine inspectors, as established by Article 13 of Uzbekistan's Law "On Plant Protection."

Aleksey Meng, a resident of the neighborhood who submitted the appeal, thanked the specialists for their prompt response.

"After our appeal, specialists arrived, examined the situation, and began treating the trees. In particular, therapeutic measures are being carried out to strengthen the root system. We express our gratitude for this. We hope the trees in our neighborhood will become strong again and our area will once again be a green and beautiful place," he said.

The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change emphasized that it strongly condemns any instances of tree damage, harm, or illegal logging, reminding the public that such violations carry strict penalties.
