Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate reviewed the results of a parliamentary inquiry into measures to strengthen families and prevent divorce in Uzbekistan at its 19th plenary session.
The inquiry was sent to the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women. During the discussion, it was noted that, under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 257 dated 19 May 2026, Family and Women’s Centres have been established in 208 districts and cities across the country.
A 16-hour programme titled “Preparation for a Happy Family Life Without Domestic Violence” has been developed for citizens planning to marry.
In 2025, civil courts helped reconcile couples in 5,235 divorce cases. In the first half of 2026, there were 2,666 such cases.
A total of 93,312 marriages were registered in Uzbekistan during the first six months of 2026. During the same period, 96,673 young people preparing to marry completed the relevant training programme.
A special “Family” module has been launched on the ayol.gov.uz platform to work with families experiencing conflict. In addition, the Research Institute of Family and Gender prepared scientific and methodological manuals on the early identification of family conflicts, responsible child-rearing and the use of mediation.
At the same time, participants in the session pointed to a number of unresolved issues. In particular, only 151 mediation agreements on family conflicts were concluded during the period under review in 2026.
According to the senators, this indicates that the potential of mediators is not being used sufficiently to prevent divorces and resolve family disputes through mutual agreement.
During the discussion, senators put forward proposals to improve the quality of preparing young people for family life and the practical effectiveness of the relevant courses. They also outlined tasks to provide targeted psychological, legal and social assistance to families in conflict, prevent early marriages and put research findings into practice.
Following the discussion, the Senate adopted a corresponding resolution.
