Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov met with Christian Leifeld, Chief Financial Officer of Lufthansa Technik, and Marion Edel, Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Uzbekistan, on 10 September. The sides discussed technical support for aircraft and the development of expertise in aviation maintenance and repair.
Particular attention was paid to long-term cooperation amid Uzbekistan’s plans to double its aircraft fleet by 2030. In particular, the sides discussed extending until 2035 an agreement on technical support for components for Airbus A320ceo/neo and Boeing 787 aircraft.
The sides also considered further cooperation on the maintenance of LEAP-1A and CFM56-5B aircraft engines.
Another area of discussion was plans for the next 10 years, including the development of technical expertise and expansion of the capabilities of Uzbekistan Airways Technics.
The Transport Minister also proposed establishing cooperation between Lufthansa Technik and Tashkent State Transport University. This would include internships for students of the university’s Aviation Technical Faculty, as well as joint implementation of educational and professional programmes in civil aviation.
Such cooperation is expected to support the training of aviation specialists, the exchange of international expertise and the strengthening of human resources in the sector.
Lufthansa Technik is a German company specializing in aircraft maintenance and a subsidiary of Lufthansa.
The company is among the world’s five largest providers of aircraft maintenance services. Its activities include aircraft maintenance, repair and modernization, as well as the production of components.
