Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited a newly built overpass at the intersection of the A373 highway and the Tashkent Ring Road during a trip to Tashkent Region.

According to officials, the new infrastructure will improve traffic management, enhance road safety, reduce congestion and cut travel time between Tashkent and Nurafshan by 10 to 15 minutes.

The project was implemented on a 14.1-hectare site on the border of the Bektemir and Urta Chirchik districts. Construction cost 240 billion soums.

The project included the construction of a 66-metre-long and 46-metre-wide bridge, a 450-metre road tunnel, two U-turn lanes, four underground pedestrian crossings and a 950-metre loop ramp.

In addition, 9.5 kilometres of pedestrian and cycling paths were built, eight public transport stops were installed, 240 street lighting poles were erected and 6 kilometres of road barriers were installed.

Following the opening of the overpass, the capacity of the section is expected to increase severalfold to 130,000 vehicles per day. The project is expected to improve transport links between Tashkent and Tashkent Region, reduce traffic congestion and provide more convenient travel conditions for residents.

During the visit, the president was also briefed on the technical solutions used in the project, traffic management capabilities and plans to introduce a bus rapid transit (BRT) system on the Tashkent–Nurafshan route.
