New Gas-Condensate Field Discovered in Kashkadarya

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A new gas-condensate field named Patron has been discovered in Mirishkor district of Kashkadarya Region, with its first exploration well connected to a gas pipeline and commissioned on 2 September 2026. The well’s initial gas production stands at 500,000 cubic meters per day, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said.

The Ministry of Energy also denied reports circulating on social media about an alleged gas explosion in Karshi district of Kashkadarya Region. The ministry said the video being circulated shows not an explosion but the testing and commissioning of an exploration well at the newly discovered field.

Drilling of the first exploration well at the Patron site began after Chinese company BGP conducted 3D seismic surveys in 2025. Drilling has been completed, while testing of reservoir productivity at depths of 3,296 to 3,339 meters confirmed the presence of natural gas in commercial volumes.

According to preliminary estimates, the field is relatively small. Its reserves are estimated at approximately 2.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Specialists from O‘zLITIneftgaz JSC are currently conducting gas-dynamic and gas-condensate studies. The studies are required to determine the actual gas production indicators of the new well.

The Ministry of Energy separately explained that the appearance of an open flame during well testing is a standard technological procedure. Gas is burned through a special device to determine the well’s productivity, pressure and operating parameters. Therefore, according to the ministry, the process shown in the video does not indicate an explosion or accident.

The well was connected to the gas pipeline and commissioned at 06:00 on 2 September. The work was carried out with the participation of a paramilitary unit of the oil and gas industry and specialists from O‘zLITIneftgaz JSC.

According to the Ministry of Energy, industrial and fire safety requirements, occupational safety standards and environmental regulations were observed during the work. The necessary organizational and technical measures were carried out under the supervision of representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

In connection with the circulation of the video, the Ministry of Energy urged social media administrators not to publish unverified information without first establishing the circumstances. The ministry also noted that disseminating false information that misleads the public may result in liability under current legislation.

The ministry recommended obtaining information about developments in the oil and gas sector from official sources.
