Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Namangan Region has begun preparations for the 2026 raw cotton harvest, with the region targeting a total crop of 254,500 tons.
Cotton was planted on 48,800 hectares this season, while the planned average yield is 52.2 centners per hectare, the information service of the Namangan regional hokimiyat said.
Based on these indicators, the region expects to harvest 254,500 tons of cotton. Cotton bolls are now opening widely in the fields, signaling the approaching main stage of the harvesting campaign.
A total of 856 harvesting teams have been formed in the region. This year, the main focus will be on mechanized harvesting, with cotton-picking machinery expected to collect 70% of the crop.
Overall, 178 cotton-picking machines are planned to be involved in the campaign. The region’s machinery fleet was expanded by 57 new machines this year.
Preparations for the harvest were discussed at a regional demonstration seminar-meeting held at the field camp of the Elita Urugchilik farm in Mingbulak district. The event brought together agricultural veterans, community elders, heads of regional law enforcement agencies, district hokims and representatives of relevant organizations.
The seminar focused on reducing harvesting losses, meeting established deadlines, ensuring safety requirements and coordinating all stages of the campaign. Following the meeting, measures were identified to ensure that harvesting is completed within a short period.
Namangan Region Hokim Shavkatjon Abdurazzokov instructed responsible officials to ensure the timely collection of cotton from the fields, create the necessary conditions for cotton pickers and meet the established production targets.
The start of the harvesting campaign was also marked by a traditional event attended by community elders. A sacrificial animal was slaughtered and a dastarkhan was laid.
Participants prayed for the well-being of farmers and agricultural workers and offered a “white blessing” for the start of the new season.
