Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Trade between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states and Uzbekistan exceeded US$11 billion in January–July 2026.
Uzbekistan accounted for 66% of the bloc’s total trade with Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries that are not EAEU members, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) said.
“Uzbekistan is our main trading partner among CIS countries that are not members of the EAEU,” EEC Board Chairman Bakytzhan Sagintayev said. According to him, bilateral trade reached US$17.4 billion in 2025, 1.8 times the 2020 level.
At Uzbekistan’s initiative, an international agreement on the exchange of customs information is being prepared. The document is intended to speed up customs procedures, improve the transparency of trade flows and simplify operations for foreign trade participants.
The parties are also working to remove barriers to mutual trade. A joint action plan is being implemented to compare their technical regulation systems.
Aligning mandatory requirements is expected to make it easier for goods to enter the markets of the EAEU and Uzbekistan while reducing business costs. The sides are also developing industrial and agro-industrial cooperation initiatives.
Another promising area is the digital transformation of the economy, one of Kazakhstan’s key priorities during its 2026 chairmanship of the EAEU bodies.
“We see good opportunities to expand dialogue on electronic data exchange, the digitalisation of freight transport, the integration of digital services and the development of e-commerce,” Sagintayev said.
The EEC and the Uzbek government are completing their joint action plan for 2024–2026 this year. A new plan covering the period through 2030 is now being developed.
These issues were discussed during talks between Sagintayev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on 22 October.
Uzbekistan obtained observer status at the EAEU in 2020.
Cooperation between the EEC and the Uzbek government is based on a 2021 memorandum. A joint working group operates under the agreement, and the parties implement coordinated action plans.
