Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will present its updated nationally determined contribution (NDC 3.0) at the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), setting a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP by 50% by 2035 compared with 2010 levels.
The conference will take place in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November, the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of Uzbekistan said.
At COP31, Uzbekistan will outline its national approaches to achieving the target, with a focus on developing green energy, improving energy efficiency, introducing modern technologies and strengthening the climate resilience of economic sectors.
One of Uzbekistan’s key events at the conference will focus on climate migration and international cooperation.
A high-level event at the national pavilion will address the impact of climate change on migration, the protection of vulnerable populations and efforts to strengthen regional climate resilience. Organisers plan to adopt a declaration on climate migration by countries in Central Asia and the South Caucasus, known as the Silk Road Declaration.
Uzbekistan will also present initiatives under its nationwide Yashil Makon (Green Space) project and plans to establish forest plantations on the dried seabed of the Aral Sea. Other topics will include combating desertification, preserving biodiversity and developing a circular economy.
The national pavilion will showcase the country’s achievements and prospective projects in climate action, environmental protection and sustainable development.
It will also serve as a platform for attracting new international partners and financial resources. The committee is preparing the pavilion’s programme and international meetings in cooperation with partner organisations.
According to the committee, participation in the conference will expand Uzbekistan’s opportunities to access climate finance, develop joint projects and strengthen environmental sustainability.
