Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the activities of the Uzbekistan branch of Liaoning Normal University and the Confucius Institute, both opened in Khiva. The new educational complex was established jointly by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Abu Rayhan Beruni Urgench State University and China’s Liaoning Normal University.

The government allocated 140 billion soums from the state budget for the construction and equipment of the complex. The project created 120 jobs.

The complex includes academic buildings with capacity for 560 students, a library, a sports hall, a 200-seat cultural palace and a 118-seat canteen. A separate four-storey building houses classrooms with capacity for 628 students and a dormitory with 224 places.

The admission quota for 2026 has been set at 160 students. It is planned to increase the annual quota to 500 students in the future, while the total number of students is expected to reach 2,000.

Students will study in full-time and distance-learning formats in Uzbek, Chinese and English. Bachelor’s degree programmes will cover International Education in Chinese, Tourism Management, International Business and Artificial Intelligence.

Master’s programmes will include Teaching Chinese Language and Culture, Education Management, and Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technologies.

The branch’s diploma will be directly recognized in Uzbekistan. Talented graduates will have opportunities to continue their studies on scholarships at leading universities in China and undertake internships at Chinese organizations.

The establishment of the branch and development of the Confucius Institute are also linked to growing demand for specialists with knowledge of Chinese and modern technologies. Khorezm region currently has 38 major projects involving Chinese investors, with a total value of US$2.343 billion. These projects require qualified personnel with modern technological skills and knowledge of Chinese.

Mirziyoyev stressed the need to align educational programmes with the needs of the economy and labour market. He also emphasized the importance of creating conditions for students to gain a deep understanding of modern technologies and foreign languages.

During the visit, the president was also presented with a unified national tourism platform and new opportunities and benefits for entrepreneurs working in the tourism sector.
