Uzbekistan's foreign currency demand rises 17.7%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Demand for foreign currency from legal entities and individuals in Uzbekistan reached US$38.2 billion in January-July 2026, up 17.7% from US$32.5 billion in the same period of 2025, according to the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Legal entities accounted for US$30 billion of total demand, while individuals accounted for US$8.2 billion.
Total foreign currency supply increased by US$7.2 billion, or 28%, during the reporting period, reaching US$33 billion compared with US$25.8 billion a year earlier. Individuals sold US$14.6 billion to commercial banks, while legal entities sold US$18.4 billion in foreign currency.
The exchange rate fluctuated between 11,910 and 12,320 soums per US dollar in January-July 2026. By the end of the reporting period, the national currency had strengthened against the US dollar by about 0.4%.
The average two-way exchange-rate volatility was 32 soums, or 0.27%, compared with 28.2 soums, or 0.22%, in January-July 2025.
