Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex in Tashkent on 2 September 2026, laying a wreath at the monument to the First President during a commemorative ceremony.

The ceremony commemorated Islam Karimov's role in securing Uzbekistan's state independence, maintaining national peace and stability, and advancing public welfare. Speakers noted that Karimov led the nation during a critical historical period associated with the attainment of state independence, the revival of national statehood, and the start of independent development.

Participants highlighted the significance of state independence in restoring national identity, honor, dignity, the native language, religion, and traditional values. Preserving the memory of individuals who contributed to establishing independence, ensuring peace, and serving public welfare was cited as an important spiritual value.

The Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex in Tashkent was established through the initiative of President Mirziyoyev, who also maintains the tradition of visiting Karimov's mausoleum during trips to Samarkand.

During the event, verses from the Quran were recited and prayers were offered.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, ministries, state agencies, as well as intellectuals and public figures from Tashkent, who laid flowers at the monument. Similar commemorative events were also held in Samarkand and Karshi.
