Mirziyoyev Congratulates Pashinyan on Election Victory
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has sent a congratulatory message to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following the victory of his Civil Contract party in the parliamentary elections, according to the press service of the Government of Armenia.
In his message, the Uzbek president said the election results confirmed the Armenian people’s high level of trust in Pashinyan’s domestic and foreign policies, including efforts to ensure peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
Mirziyoyev also expressed confidence in the continued development of bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Armenia.
“I am confident that as a result of our joint efforts we will further expand our mutually beneficial cooperation in the future,” the president said in his message.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia were held on 7 June. According to the country’s Central Election Commission, the Civil Contract party received 49.81% of the vote, finishing in first place.
The opposition Strong Armenia bloc, led by businessman Samvel Karapetyan, received 23.29% of the vote. The Armenia bloc, led by former President Robert Kocharyan, received 9.94%, while the Prosperous Armenia party received 4%.
The elections took place amid discussions on Armenia’s foreign policy direction and its future participation in regional integration frameworks.
In late May, the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia called on Armenia to clarify its future role in the Eurasian Economic Union.
