Mirziyoyev Calls for Climate Solidarity in Astana
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for stronger climate solidarity and coordinated action to address environmental challenges during the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana.
The head of state noted that the region’s environmental issues are closely linked to global climate change and require collective solutions. According to him, the pace of global warming continues to accelerate, while temperatures in Central Asia are rising at twice the global average. Nearly one-third of glaciers have already been lost, water scarcity is intensifying, and precipitation patterns are becoming increasingly unstable.
The President also highlighted the issue of land degradation, which affects around 880 million hectares, as well as the weakening of mechanisms for international environmental cooperation.
Mirziyoyev stressed that countries in the region contribute minimally to global emissions yet bear a disproportionate burden from the impacts of climate change.
In this context, he called for ensuring fair and equitable access for developing countries to climate financing, advanced technologies, and innovative solutions.
