Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Negotiations between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš were held at the Kuksaroy residence in both narrow and expanded formats with the participation of delegations from the two countries. The sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of practical cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the Czech Prime Minister’s visit would serve as an important step opening a new stage in bilateral relations. It was emphasized that cooperation between the two countries demonstrates steady momentum across all areas.
The strengthening of contacts at the level of governments, ministries and agencies was noted, along with the activation of business and humanitarian ties. Friendship groups have been established in the parliaments of both countries, and the Intergovernmental Commission continues to function effectively.
In recent years, bilateral trade turnover has almost doubled. There are currently 37 enterprises with Czech capital operating in Uzbekistan, and new areas of cooperation are being developed.
Special attention was paid to increasing mutual trade. The parties set a goal of raising trade turnover to US$1 billion, including through the expansion of the range of traded goods.
To support trade, the first Uzbek certification branch is being established in the Czech Republic. Together with Czech partners, a project is being implemented to build a modern Euro-6 automotive certification laboratory, as well as a quantum standard facility.
An agreement was reached to prepare a program of technological cooperation involving leading Czech companies. The document will cover projects in mechanical engineering, green energy, geology and critical raw materials, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and other sectors.
The sides also discussed prospects for cooperation in infrastructure, digitalization, engineering solutions, and smart city development. Initiatives presented during the Uzbek-Czech business forum were supported.
Plans by the Czech Export Credit Agency and the Export Bank of the Czech Republic to support investment projects in Uzbekistan were also welcomed.
To further advance the economic agenda, it was proposed to establish a Business Council and hold the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in August in Tashkent.
In the humanitarian sphere, both sides confirmed interest in expanding educational exchanges and double-degree programs, as well as organizing cultural days, film screenings, exhibitions and concerts. The expansion of tourism flows was also discussed, including the resumption of direct flights between the capitals.
The sides also exchanged views on international issues. Following the talks, an agreement was reached to prepare a joint roadmap for the implementation of the agreements achieved.
