Matviyenko Says Russia–Uzbekistan Partnership Is Expanding
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Relations between Russia and Uzbekistan are developing dynamically and have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance. This was stated by Valentina Matviyenko, Chair of the Federation Council of Russia, during a meeting with Tanzila Narbayeva, Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, held in St. Petersburg.
She said that the current level of bilateral relations is the result of political will and close interaction between the leaders of the two countries.
Matviyenko noted that cooperation between the states is showing steady results despite external economic challenges. She also reported that trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan increased by more than 12% last year.
Special attention during the meeting was given to issues of historical memory. The Chair of the Federation Council highlighted the participation of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in events in Moscow on Victory Day, emphasizing the importance of preserving shared historical memory and respecting the contribution of participants in the Second World War.
In addition, Matviyenko expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for its attention to veterans and residents of the besieged Leningrad, and supported the “Train of Memory” initiative involving participants from several countries.
She also announced plans to hold Days of Uzbek Culture in Russia in the autumn of this year, noting interest in participation from Uzbek cultural figures.
