JETOUR G700 Completes Water Crossing in Beijing in Amphibious Showcase
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The JETOUR G700 hybrid off-road SUV crossed a lake on the outskirts of Beijing on 25 April, completing a live water demonstration for international media that the company said marked the vehicle's third public amphibious test and its first before a global audience.
The showcase, staged on the final day of the JETOUR International Media Tour alongside Auto China 2026, saw representatives of the company and journalists from multiple countries watch the G700 traverse the lake — which reaches depths of 80 meters — under conditions designed to simulate an emergency rescue scenario. The Beijing demonstration was organized in cooperation with the Blue Sky Rescue Team.
Leo Chen, Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia addressed the audience after the crossing, drawing a direct line between the vehicle's engineering and its intended real-world application.
"The reason we created a vehicle that can go on water is not to show off, but to better protect people," Chen said. "We hope that when extreme rainfall and flooding, road blockages, or other severe emergencies occur, it can become a mobile life capsule and safety shelter for our users."
Third Crossing, First Global Stage
The Beijing demonstration followed two earlier documented water crossings in China. The first, on the Yangtze River near Wuhu in October 2025, saw the G700 cover approximately 1,480 meters in 22 minutes against currents of 5 to 10 km/h. The second took place on the Minjiang River in April 2026, where the G700 crossed approximately 1.2 km in around 10 minutes as part of a field exercise conducted with the Fujian Provincial Emergency Rescue Center.
Chen framed the progression deliberately. "The first time, in the Yangtze, was a technological breakthrough," he said. "The second time, on the Minjiang, was a field exercise. Today, standing in Beijing and livestreaming to friends around the world, showcasing our product to the whole world, of course has a completely different significance."
Describing his state of mind before the crossing, Chen said: "I am not worried at all. I feel completely at ease and have tremendous confidence in this product. I can say that our amphibious version is a landmark moment in China's automotive industry."
Engineering Behind the Capability
The G700's water-crossing ability is built on JETOUR's GAIA Architecture — the company's all-terrain platform combining a 2.0TD hybrid engine with a dual-motor system producing 665 kW and 1,135 N·m of torque. The platform integrates off-road control systems, terrain assistance software and an electronically managed locking system across all three differentials, which are fitted as standard.
For amphibious operation, the G700 carries what JETOUR calls Ark amphibious technology — sealed body construction, IP68-rated waterproofing and a dedicated water propulsion system that the company says allows the vehicle to operate afloat for up to 40 minutes at approximately 4.5 knots. On land, the vehicle's rated wading depth is 970 mm.
The company describes GAIA's capability envelope in broad terms. "It can run on land, swim in water, connect to satellites in the sky, and provide intelligent protection inside the vehicle," Chen said. "True GAIA capability is all-domain mastery across sea, land, air, and mobility."
Chen also referenced a previous deployment with the Kekexili patrol team on the Tibetan Plateau, where an amphibious version of the vehicle accompanied rangers into uninhabited highland areas to support ecosystem protection and public safety operations.
Rescue Mission, Not Marketing Exercise
Chen was direct in addressing the question of why the company has pursued a program of repeated public water tests.
"Emergency drills are not about showing off — they are about protection," he said. "Some friends may be asking why we keep conducting these drills and challenges. The answer is simple: we just hope that whenever any extreme emergency happens, this vehicle can become the most reliable safety capsule and protective shelter for everyone."
He concluded with a statement of intent for the G700's role beyond the consumer market. "In the future, Zongheng will continue to work alongside rescue teams and environmental protectors, putting technology to use where it is needed most," Chen said. "We are opening not just a new product category, but a new value standard for all-domain off-roading. It can accompany you across mountains and rivers, and more importantly, it can protect you at critical moments."
"We will bring dependable protection to every user around the world. Zongheng Ark, protecting the world."
An Hour on the Water
Two G700 units operated on Yanqi Lake simultaneously for approximately one hour, giving journalists a sustained and close-up view of the vehicle's amphibious capabilities. Watching the SUVs move freely across open water — a lake with depths reaching 80 meters — left a visible impression on attendees, many of whom had not previously encountered a production SUV with genuine water-crossing ability.
Reporters from across five continents expressed surprise at the level of technology on display, with many describing the demonstration as unlike anything they had seen from a Chinese automaker. The showcase reinforced the broader sense among attending media that JETOUR's engineering ambitions now extend well beyond the conventional SUV market.
Ahead of the crossing event, international media had tested the G700 alongside the T2 i-DM and SOUEAST S08 DM on 23 Aprilat Haidian Airport. The evaluation covered acceleration, vehicle control, braking performance and handling stability.
All three vehicles completed the assessments without incident, with testers noting consistent chassis behavior, composed suspension tuning and well-calibrated electronic driver assistance systems under hard braking and on sections with sharp gradient changes.
