Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev commented on the outcomes of the official visit of a government delegation to Ashgabat.

During the working trip, the deputy prime minister held a meeting with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and co-chaired the 19th meeting of the Joint Uzbek-Turkmen Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation.

The head of the Uzbek delegation emphasized that the strategic partnership with fraternal Turkmenistan holds priority significance for Tashkent. Interstate relations are traditionally based on the unshakeable principles of good neighborliness, equality, deep mutual trust, and respect for each other's interests.

According to the deputy prime minister, due to the open and regular political dialogue at the highest level between the leaders of the two countries, bilateral cooperation demonstrates high dynamics and is filled with new practical content annually.

A detailed analysis of the current state of trade and economic ties and an audit of the progress in implementing previously signed interdepartmental agreements were placed on the agenda of the past intergovernmental commission meeting. The relevant ministries focused key attention on increasing cooperation in the energy sector, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and the transport sector.

Separately, the negotiation participants reviewed roadmaps for deepening industrial cooperation, including the chemical industry, automotive manufacturing, and the electrical engineering sector, as well as the accelerated implementation of innovative scientific and technical developments.

Jamshid Khodjayev highlighted the modernization of transport infrastructure as one of the drivers of economic convergence. The protocol of the meeting recorded the intentions of the parties to systematically increase transit cargo transportation volumes while simultaneously simplifying customs, border, and logistical procedures.

In addition, bringing the Turkmen-Uzbek Border Trade Center to its design capacity remains a strategic agenda item, the operation of which has given a powerful impetus to interregional trade. Following the meetings, the parties secured the reached agreements by signing a final Protocol and expressed confidence in the further strengthening of the alliance between the two states.
