Behruz Karimov Signs Five-Year Contract with FC Lugano

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan national team defender Behruz Karimov, 19, has transferred from PFC Surkhon to Swiss club FC Lugano, signing a five-year contract until 30 June 2031, according to FC Lugano.

Karimov plays as a right-back and is a member of the Uzbekistan national team. He recently took part in the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico with the national side. Head coach Fabio Cannavaro fielded the 19-year-old player in two matches during the tournament, against Colombia and Portugal.

The move to Lugano marks Karimov's first experience playing for a European club. The Swiss side expects the defender to continue his professional development and take the next step in his career.

FC Lugano Chief Sports Director Sebastian Pelzer stated that the club views Karimov's transfer as part of a strategy to develop young players and strengthen the team's international reputation.

According to Pelzer, Karimov attracted interest from several clubs, but Lugano managed to secure his transfer.

When selecting the project, the sports director noted, the club primarily considered athletic prospects and conditions for the player's development.

Lugano aims to create conditions for Karimov that will allow him to adapt to European football and continue his professional growth.

For the defender himself, the transfer opens a new stage in his career following his appearance at the major international tournament with the Uzbekistan national team.
