IAEA’s Grossi Calls Uzbekistan Nuclear Project Unique

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, described Uzbekistan’s nuclear power plant project as unique during a ceremony marking the start of construction of the facility’s first power unit.

The remarks were made at an official event attended by Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin.

Addressing the leaders of the two countries, Grossi highlighted the distinctive nature of the project.

“You have both described this project as unique, and it has unique characteristics,” Grossi said during the ceremony launching construction of the plant’s first power unit.

The start of construction was officially announced on Thursday during a ceremony involving the presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia.

The project will become the first nuclear power facility built in the history of independent Uzbekistan.
