Hong Kong plans major Uzbekistan artefacts exhibition
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) plans to hold a major exhibition of artefacts from the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan in Hong Kong by the end of 2028.
The announcement was made by HKPM Director Louis Ng during a press briefing in Tashkent, China Daily reported. He said the project is being implemented under a long-term cooperation agreement between HKPM and the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan covering research, educational programmes and professional training.
The agreement forms part of a broader cooperation programme reached during a visit by a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delegation led by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu to Central Asian countries.
A total of 96 agreements were signed during the visit across a range of sectors, including trade, finance, aviation, the digital economy, green initiatives, culture and education.
Louis Ng said the project marks the museum’s first cooperation with partners in Central Asia. According to him, the Uzbek side has shown strong interest in cultural exchange, and representatives from Uzbekistan are expected to visit Hong Kong early next year to exchange experience.
The HKPM director also highlighted Uzbekistan’s historical role as one of the key centres of the ancient Silk Road and expressed interest in presenting the region’s history more broadly in Hong Kong.
The sides have preliminarily agreed on a project timetable under which the artefacts are expected to be transported to Hong Kong by the end of 2028.
