Cultural Heritage Agency Halts Unauthorized Repairs at Blue Domes Landmark
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's Cultural Heritage Agency has halted unauthorized repair work on the roof of the Moviy Gumbaz ("Blue Domes") café, a protected cultural heritage site. The inspection was launched following reports circulated on social media.
The agency said its staff arrived at the site at around 22:00 on 20 July to conduct an inspection. They found that repair work was being carried out on the roof without approval from the authorized state bodies.
Agency representatives ordered the work to stop and held a meeting with the site's management to explain the applicable legal requirements.
The café's owners were reminded that any repair, restoration or other construction work on cultural heritage sites may only be carried out after obtaining permission from the competent authorities. They were also instructed to comply with legislation governing the protection of cultural heritage sites.
The agency noted that the Moviy Gumbaz café is included in the National Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage Sites of the Republic of Uzbekistan and is protected by the state as an example of modernist architecture.
