Full-Cycle Chevrolet Plant in Azerbaijan to Launch in Mid-2027
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The construction of a full-production-cycle automotive plant in Hajigabul, Azerbaijan, is scheduled to be completed by mid-2027. The development was announced by the Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Khurram Teshabaev, in an interview with Report.az.
The project is being jointly implemented by Azermash CP and JSC Uzavtosanoat. The total cost of this second phase of development is valued at US$84.3 million.
"The core preparatory works have been completed: suppliers have been selected, orders for technological equipment and production lines have been placed, and the construction of the new manufacturing complex is underway, where, in particular, the production of the Chevrolet Cobalt model will be organized," Teshabaev stated.
Following the commissioning of the enterprise, production will transition from semi-knocked-down (SKD) assembly to a full-scale industrial cycle. This shift will enable a substantial increase in manufacturing volumes and an expansion of the vehicle lineup.
The SKD assembly of Chevrolet passenger cars and Isuzu buses at the Hajigabul facility originally commenced in 2022. Since then, the factory has turned out more than 9,000 vehicles.
The deputy minister identified a gradual increase in localization as one of the pivotal tasks of the second phase. "The plan provides for expanding the utilization of components manufactured within Azerbaijan, establishing a network of domestic suppliers, and mastering more complex technological processes," he explained.
According to Teshabaev, these efforts will boost the domestic value-added contribution and support the formation of a modern automotive manufacturing ecosystem in Azerbaijan.
