Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Russia’s FESCO transport group has expanded its FESCO Caravan Shuttle rail container service by adding shipments from Urumqi, China, to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
Since late August, the company has dispatched four container trains along the new route to Tashkent and Almaty, FESCO said. The trains travelled through the Khorgos–Altynkol border crossing, with an average cargo delivery time of nine days.
FESCO plans to operate container trains from Urumqi regularly, initially at a frequency of at least one train per month.
“Launching shipments from Urumqi, alongside services from Xi’an and Chengdu, allows us to expand our presence in western China and offer shippers additional delivery options to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan,” said Maxim Bukhanov, general director of FESCO Central Asia.
He described Urumqi as an important trade and logistics hub connecting western China with Central Asian markets. The company plans to develop the new route in line with customer demand.
FESCO Caravan Shuttle was launched in July 2026 to transport containerised cargo from Chinese cities to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan through the Dostyk and Altynkol land border crossings. The first shipments departed from Xi’an. In addition to Urumqi, FESCO also operates services from Chengdu.
The service handles various types of cargo, including consumer goods, industrial products, equipment and components.
FESCO also provides additional logistics services, including delivery to departure railway stations within China and road transport to consignee warehouses in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This enables the company to offer door-to-door transportation.
FESCO is a transport and logistics group with operations in ports, rail freight and integrated logistics.
In November 2023, a controlling stake in the company was transferred to Russia’s state-owned Rosatom corporation by presidential decree.
