Drunk, License-Deprived Driver Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash in Tashkent and Attempts to Flee
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement officers in the capital’s Yashnabad district have intercepted a dangerous, intoxicated motorist who had previously been stripped of his driving privileges. According to the Traffic Safety Department of the Tashkent Main City Internal Affairs Department (GUDV), the incident occurred on the night of 20 June 2026 at approximately 01:30 AM on Fargona Yuli Street, near the "Ok Uy" mosque.
The driver of a Cobalt, identified as M.B. (born in 1981), was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and ignored the lawful orders of road patrol officers to pull over. In a reckless attempt to evade pursuit and in gross violation of traffic signs, the offender veered into the oncoming traffic lane.
While driving against the traffic flow, the Cobalt collided successively with two vehicles: a Leapmotor electric vehicle driven by R.M. (born in 1968) and a Spark subcompact driven by I.R. (born in 1998). Immediately after causing the pile-up, the perpetrator attempted to flee the scene on foot but was promptly detained by pursuing law enforcement officers.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the Tashkent traffic police inspectors, fatalities were avoided, and no road users were injured as a result of the multi-vehicle collision. The department noted that the professional actions of the patrol crews prevented more severe consequences that could have arisen from an unchecked, intoxicated driver navigating busy city streets.
Currently, the Traffic Safety Department of the Tashkent GUDV is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident to establish the exact circumstances and gather materials to hold the detained individual legally accountable. The capital's law enforcement agencies have once again issued an appeal to citizens to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, emphasizing that operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol is completely unacceptable.
