Uzbekistan Proposes 'Eco-Partner' Status for Green Initiatives

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has proposed introducing an "Eco-Partner" status for individuals and organisations that contribute to the creation of green gardens and public parks. A draft Cabinet of Ministers resolution prepared by the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change has been released for public consultation.

The draft was developed as part of implementing Presidential Decree No. UP-47 of 25 March 2026, "On measures to further improve the effectiveness of the nationwide Yashil Makon project." It aims to expand the participation of individuals and legal entities in establishing, preserving and developing green gardens, public parks, botanical gardens and arboretums, while introducing a system of incentives.

Under the proposal, "Eco-Partner" status would be awarded to individuals and organisations that establish a green garden or public park containing at least 1,000 trees and shrubs and contribute at least 200 million soums to the Yashil charitable foundation.

The status would be awarded through an annual competition. One individual from each of Uzbekistan's 14 regions and 10 legal entities with the highest scores would be selected as winners. Results would be based on activities completed by the end of April, reviewed in May, and certificates and commemorative gifts would be presented between 1 and 10 June.

Recipients of the status would also be recommended for the "Protector of Nature" badge. The participant with the highest overall score could be nominated for the honorary title of "Honoured Ecologist of the Republic of Uzbekistan."

The draft also stipulates that holders of "Eco-Partner" status would be prohibited from carrying out any construction work on the green areas they have created.

As an incentive, the proposal would grant "Eco-Partners" a 10% discount on government services and preferential terms for consumer loans from commercial banks with more than 50% state ownership.

The draft resolution has been published for public consultation on the regulation.gov.uz portal, where citizens can submit comments and proposals.
