Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Regular air service between Belgrade and Tashkent could be launched within the next seven to eight months, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said at the Serbia-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Belgrade.

According to the Serbian leader, the issue of establishing a direct route could be resolved within that timeframe. Vucic expressed confidence that regular flights between the two capitals would begin no later than seven to eight months from now.

The Serbian president described the introduction of direct air service as an important condition for bringing Uzbekistan and Serbia closer together. He said the new route would help expand contacts between the people, companies and economies of the two countries.

Vucic also expects an increase in tourist exchanges. According to him, once direct flights are launched, more Serbian citizens will be able to visit Uzbekistan, including Samarkand and Bukhara. At the same time, he expects more tourists from Uzbekistan to travel to Serbia.

Another area of closer ties will be Uzbekistan’s diplomatic presence in Belgrade. During the visit, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan plans to open a separate diplomatic mission in the Serbian capital without waiting for the establishment of a full-fledged embassy.

According to the Uzbek leader, diplomats are expected to arrive in Belgrade as early as next week. They will help Serbian companies establish and develop business contacts with partners in Uzbekistan.

Mirziyoyev’s visit to Serbia was the first visit by an Uzbek president to the country in the history of bilateral relations. Following the talks, the two sides announced the establishment of strategic partnership relations.
