Court Assistant Detained in Karshi Over US$2,500 Bribe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A judicial system employee was detained while receiving an illegal monetary reward during a joint sting operation conducted by officers of the State Security Service (SGB) and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes in the Kashkadarya region.

According to investigators, an assistant to a judge of the Karshi District Criminal Court attempted to leverage his official position for personal gain.

Abusing the trust of a citizen who had just begun working at a regional branch of the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement (MIB) of the Kashkadarya region in May of this year, the assistant promised to assist him with career advancement.

Referencing his alleged strong connections among high-ranking officials, the judge's assistant assured the victim that he could secure his permanent employment and subsequently expedite a transfer to an MIB unit in a different, more convenient district of the citizen's choice.

In exchange for his mediation services, the judicial representative demanded a fixed sum of US$2,500.

The arrest took place directly inside the suspect's office, where he was caught red-handed at the moment the entire cash amount was handed over.

A criminal case has been initiated against the official regarding this matter, and comprehensive investigative actions are currently being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the offense.

Law enforcement agencies urge citizens to remain vigilant. If faced with instances of corruption, extortion, or other violations of the law in daily life, it is recommended to immediately report them via the official SGB trust hotline at 1520. Complete confidentiality and protection for applicants are guaranteed.
