“C5+1” security working group hold meeting in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 July 2018, Tashkent hosted “C5+1” Security Working Group meeting.

Representatives of all Central Asian countries and the United States attended the event, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the regional and international security issues, including strengthening cooperation in countering the threats of extremism, terrorism, and ensuring border security.

The state and prospects of cooperation in settlement of the situation in Afghanistan were also discussed. Participants of the meeting noted that stable and sustainable development in Central Asia is inseparably linked with the achievement of peace and harmony in neighboring Afghanistan.

C5+1 format, launched during the first meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of Central Asian countries and the USA in Samarkand in November 2015 is a consultative mechanism on the issues of improving mutually beneficial cooperation of its participants in political, trade and economic, investment, transport and communication, energy relations, as well as interaction in the field of prevention and counteraction to cross-border threats and challenges.
