Authorities Deny Rabies Outbreak Rumors in Kashkadarya
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Health Department of Kashkadarya Region has denied reports circulating on social media regarding three alleged cases of rabies among members of a single family in the Varganza mahalla of Kitab District.
According to the department, a resident of Kitab District born in 1979 was hospitalized on 10 July 2026 with a suspected highly dangerous infectious disease. An epidemiological investigation revealed that the man had been scratched by a fox cub approximately one month prior.
Despite receiving medical assistance, the patient died on 11 July 2026. A forensic medical examination has been ordered to establish the exact cause of death.
As a precautionary measure, three other residents of the settlement underwent medical examinations. The regional health department reported that they showed no clinical signs of rabies. They are currently under medical supervision and undergoing a course of preventative vaccination.
The department noted that the epidemiological situation in Kitab District is under complete control. Monitoring is being carried out jointly by specialists from the health department, the Service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-being and Public Health, and the veterinary service.
The health department urged citizens not to panic and to refrain from spreading unverified and inaccurate information on social media.
