Andijan Official Detained Over Alleged Bribe Case

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An investigation has been opened in the Andijan Region against a legal adviser of the regional division of the Energosavdo branch of JSC Regional Electric Networks, law enforcement authorities said.

According to investigators, the employee of the legal department demanded US$5,000 from a limited liability company engaged in cheese production in exchange for resolving a case related to an act of alleged improper electricity use and assessed damages of 788.4 million Uzbek soums.

Authorities said that on 1 May, the suspect received part of the requested amount — US$500. During an operational operation conducted by the State Security Service together with internal affairs bodies, the legal adviser was detained in the act of receiving the remaining US$4,500.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident, and investigative actions are ongoing.

Law enforcement agencies also reminded citizens that such violations can be reported via the State Security Service hotline 1520, with anonymity guaranteed.
