Kuylyuk Market Partially Suspended Over Fire Safety Violations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent’s Main Department for Emergency Situations has partially restricted operations at Kuylyuk Market after fire safety violations were identified, the department’s press service said.

During an inspection, state fire safety supervision specialists found several violations at the shopping complex. In particular, Emergency Ministry employees identified a non-functioning sprinkler fire suppression system in one of the market’s premises.

According to the department, the identified shortcomings created a risk of fires and other dangerous consequences for citizens and their property. Following the inspection, part of the shopping complex was disconnected from electricity.

The Emergency Ministry said the market’s operations will resume after the facility’s management eliminates all identified violations.

The inspections are being conducted to prevent fires, protect the lives and health of citizens, and prevent property damage. Similar checks are being carried out in Tashkent and other regions of Uzbekistan.

Earlier in June, Tashkent Hokim Shavkat Umurzakov introduced a "special fire safety regime" in the capital. As part of strengthened preventive measures, authorities ordered technical inspections of water heating boilers, electrical and gas networks in residential buildings. Catering facilities were also prohibited from using household gas cylinders.
