Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States with residence in Washington, Furqat Sidiqov, has presented his credentials to the President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The ceremony took place at the Itamaraty official events palace with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil and the administration of the head of state, Dunyo news agency reports.

After the ceremony, the President of Brazil requested to convey sincere greetings and best wishes to the President of Uzbekistan and the people of the country. The Brazilian side confirmed its interest in the further development of bilateral relations, noting that it views Uzbekistan as a promising and reliable partner.

During the meeting, readiness was also confirmed to intensify political dialogue at the highest level, expand trade, economic, and investment cooperation, and fill the practical interaction between the two states with concrete joint projects.

Brazil expressed its gratitude to Uzbekistan for its consistent support of its initiatives at the UN, BRICS, and other international organizations.

As part of the visit, Furqat Sidiqov held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Mauro Vieira, the Head of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services and Advisor to the President Rogerio Zerbone, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergio Klybank, and the President of the state agency ApexBrasil Jorge Viana.

Following the meetings, agreements were reached on the joint preparation of visits and negotiations at the highest and high levels, the creation of an Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic issues, the development of the activities of the first Trading House of Uzbekistan in Rio de Janeiro, and assistance in its work.

In addition, the parties agreed to work on the organization of exports of Uzbek mineral fertilizers, the expansion of cooperation in the fields of geology, higher education, and sports, as well as the application of simplified procedures to facilitate the access of Uzbek products to the Brazilian market.

An agreement was also reached to jointly, with the assistance of the government of Brazil, prepare a schedule of negotiations with leading Brazilian companies, organize mutual visits, and develop investment proposals.

In May 2023, Furqat Sidiqov presented his credentials to US President Joseph Biden as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States. In October of the same year, he was appointed Ambassador to Brazil with residence in Washington, and in June 2024, he presented his credentials to the Governor General of Canada Mary Simon as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Canada.
