ADB, Khalq Bank Sign Financing Support Deal
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Uzbekistan’s Khalq Bank signed a memorandum of understanding on the sidelines of the 59th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank in Samarkand aimed at strengthening the bank’s readiness to attract market-based financing.
The document provides for technical assistance to support the implementation of Khalq Bank’s 2026–2028 strategy and expand access to commercial funding sources.
The cooperation framework includes the development of financial instruments intended to help the bank access capital markets more effectively and attract external financing.
The memorandum was signed by Khalq Bank Chairman Shukhrat Atabayev and Head of the Asian Development Bank’s Representative Office in Uzbekistan Kanokpan Lao Araya.
The parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening the institutional capacity of Uzbekistan’s banking sector and expanding financial cooperation.
The agreement is viewed as part of broader cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank aimed at developing the country’s financial system and improving its resilience to market conditions.
