More Than 330 Uzbeks Open Targeted Mortgage Deposits
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A total of 338 citizens opened targeted mortgage deposit accounts during the first month of Uzbekistan's new targeted mortgage deposit scheme. As of 1 August, the total balance in the accounts had reached 23.9 billion soums, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said.
Of the total amount, 13.8 billion soums, or 57%, was contributed by citizens, while 10.1 billion soums, or 43%, was transferred from the state budget.
Agrobank accounted for the largest number of targeted mortgage deposits. Its customers opened 141 accounts with a combined value of 9.7 billion soums, representing 41% of the total funds.
Business Development Bank ranked second, with 65 deposits worth 4.6 billion soums, or 19% of the total. The People's Bank opened 50 deposits amounting to 3.4 billion soums, or 14%.
By region, Ferghana and Khorezm regions recorded the highest number of targeted mortgage deposits, with 45 each. Syrdarya region had the fewest, with four deposits.
The ministry also said Hamkorbank offers the highest annual interest rate on such deposits at 18%, followed by Business Development Bank at 16%.
The targeted mortgage deposit mechanism was introduced on a pilot basis on 1 July 2026.
The accounts are available to citizens who have been approved for a mortgage subsidy. The state transfers funds to the account to cover part of the down payment, while the borrower contributes the remaining amount. The required personal contribution depends on the value of the property and the loan terms, and the deposit period may not exceed 12 months.
The pilot programme will run until 31 December 2026.
