70th Meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of National Statistical Services held in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 3 October 2024, the 70th anniversary meeting of the Council of Heads of National Statistical Services of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place in Tashkent, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The event brought together heads and representatives of national statistical services from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Representatives from the CIS Executive Committee’s Department of Economic Cooperation and the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee also attended the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Jamshed Nurmakhmadzoda, Director of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan. Mikhail Myskin, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation, also delivered a speech.

The meeting focused on the implementation and expansion of the "CIS Statistics Development Project," with key goals being the development of statistical methodologies within the CIS, the creation of an international statistical hub, the use of microdata for modeling and forecasting, and the formation of a statistical community within the CIS.

Myskin emphasized the importance of the project as a top priority for 2024–2025. Additional priorities include conducting purchasing power parity comparisons based on 2024 data and forming food resource balances in CIS countries.

The Council and the CIS Statistical Committee also work on gathering information on macroeconomic indicators for the region, used to maintain macroeconomic stability, strengthen foreign trade ties, and ensure the resilience of financial markets.

The CIS Executive Committee praised the efforts of both the Council and the Statistical Committee in advancing statistical practices within the Commonwealth and fostering international cooperation. The committee will continue to provide full support for their activities.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of relevant decisions.
