Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Yandex Uzbekistan is conducting the necessary tests of its delivery robots and preparing them for operation in the urban environment.

The robots are expected to operate on routes of up to two kilometres. Routes will be selected based on whether orders can be delivered within the time limits set by the service. Users will be able to see the estimated arrival time in the app when placing an order.

The robots move at pedestrian speed and navigate the city autonomously. They use lidar and ultrasonic sensors to do so. Their computing systems process information about the surrounding environment, recognise traffic light signals and predict the movement of objects. This enables the robots to select routes, avoid obstacles and cross roads at pedestrian crossings.

Each robot has six drive wheels, allowing it to negotiate kerbs up to 10 centimetres high and travel over uneven surfaces. According to Yandex Uzbekistan, the devices can also operate in rainy weather.

The robots handle most road situations independently. In unusual circumstances, a remote operator intervenes to resolve the issue. The company advises pedestrians not to lift or move the devices manually. A QR code on each robot provides access to customer support.

Following the pilot phase, Yandex Uzbekistan plans to gradually expand robot delivery by connecting other services within its ecosystem and offering the technology to third-party companies.

The project became public in July 2026, when the robots were spotted on the streets of Tashkent. At the time, the company confirmed that it was testing them to deliver orders from Yandex Lavka.
