Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uztelecom and its subsidiary UZ-SAT have signed an agreement with Amazon Leo, becoming an authorized distributor of the satellite system in Uzbekistan, Uztelecom said.
The agreement provides for expanded connectivity options in remote and hard-to-reach areas where the construction of traditional telecommunications infrastructure is limited. Amazon Leo's satellite solutions will complement existing terrestrial networks.
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite system designed to provide high-speed internet connectivity in areas with limited access to traditional networks.
Under the agreement, UZ-SAT will develop and provide customers in Uzbekistan with connectivity solutions using Amazon Leo's network and capabilities.
For residents of remote settlements, expanded access to high-speed internet will enable wider use of government digital services, distance education, online medical consultations, remote work and communication services. For businesses, satellite connectivity could provide connections to industrial and infrastructure facilities in hard-to-reach areas.
Uztelecom continues to develop the country's telecommunications infrastructure, including expanding its fiber-optic network, modernizing mobile communications, and establishing data centers and cloud platforms. The company provides connectivity to 96% of the country's settlements and operates 378,802 km of fiber-optic communication lines.
At the same time, the geographical characteristics of certain areas continue to create a need for alternative connectivity technologies. Amazon Leo's solutions are intended to complement terrestrial infrastructure where its use is limited or less economically efficient.
Bakhrom Azimov, CEO of UZ-SAT, said the partnership would expand connectivity options in areas where traditional infrastructure is difficult to deploy. According to Azimov, next-generation satellite connectivity will complement Uztelecom's existing infrastructure.
Trevor Vieweg, head of Amazon Leo's global business, said the company expects to provide high-speed internet to settlements and businesses in Uzbekistan that require additional connectivity options. He also highlighted the importance of Uztelecom and UZ-SAT's local expertise in developing satellite technologies in the country.
The agreement was announced during the 5th Tashkent International Investment Forum. The service launch took place on the first day of ICT Week Uzbekistan 2026 at the Uztelecom booth, in the presence of an honorary delegation and Amazon representatives.
