Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Representatives of Uzbekistan’s Hydrometeorological Service Agency (Uzhydromet), led by Director Sherzod Khabibullayev, took part in the Central Asian Conference on Climate Change and held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the RES-2026 regional environmental summit in Astana.

During the conference, Khabibullayev spoke at a panel session dedicated to early warning systems in Central Asia. He presented ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s hydrometeorological sector, including the modernization of observation networks, expansion of automated stations, and increased use of satellite data.

He also emphasized efforts to improve forecast accuracy and strengthen mechanisms for early warning of natural hazards.

On the margins of the summit, the Uzbek delegation held talks with the World Meteorological Organization, focusing on the introduction of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence-based tools, and further modernization of hydrometeorological infrastructure.

In addition, agreements were reached to expand cooperation with relevant agencies from India, China, Russia, and Türkiye. The partnership will include data exchange, joint scientific research, and professional training programs.

Separate meetings were held with international organizations and development institutions, including KPMG and GIZ, to discuss digital transformation, institutional development, and technical assistance programs.

The delegation also participated in a steering committee meeting of the Central Asian Flood Early Warning System, where participants discussed improving regional coordination, strengthening cooperation, and sharing expertise.
