Uzbekistan’s population increases by 1.8%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The number of Uzbekistan’s permanent population exceeded 27,555,000 as of 1 January 2009, the State Statistics Committee said.

That is an increase of 483,100 or 1.8% over one year, the State Statistics Committee said.

About 646,400 children were born last year, the committee said.
