Uzbekistan’s mobile subscriber base reaches 5m

The number of cell phone users in Uzbekistan has doubled since the start of the year to 5 million, the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information said on its website said.

In early 2007, Uzbek mobile operators’ combined subscriber base amounted to around 2.5 million users.

There are three GSM operators and two CDMA operators in Uzbekistan. MTS-Uzbekistan and Beeline, owned by Russian companies, are largest mobile operators of the country.
