Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's 86 largest microfinance institutions (MFIs) held almost 99% of the sector's total assets as of 1 October 2026, with their combined assets reaching 21.54 trillion soums out of a sector-wide total of 21.75 trillion soums, according to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

A total of 142 microfinance organisations were operating in the country at the beginning of October. The 86 largest institutions each had assets exceeding 10 billion soums, while the remaining 56 organisations collectively held just over 216 billion soums.

Of the smaller institutions, 39 had assets of up to 5 billion soums, with combined holdings of 96.5 billion soums. Another 17 organisations, with assets ranging from 5 billion to 10 billion soums, held a total of 119.6 billion soums.

A similar concentration was observed in lending. Of the 19.47 trillion soums issued through loans and microleasing, 19.35 trillion soums was accounted for by the largest MFIs. The loan portfolios of organisations with assets of up to 5 billion soums totalled 49.2 billion soums, while those of the medium-sized group amounted to 74.9 billion soums.

The microfinance sector's total capital reached 4.49 trillion soums, of which 4.33 trillion soums belonged to the largest organisations. Their charter capital amounted to 2.03 trillion soums, compared with 2.18 trillion soums across the entire sector.

Smaller MFIs had combined capital of 80.4 billion soums, while the medium-sized group held 74.1 billion soums.

Liabilities were similarly concentrated among the largest market participants. Of the sector's total liabilities of 17.27 trillion soums, 17.20 trillion soums were attributable to the 86 largest organisations.

Their borrowings, loans and leasing liabilities amounted to 13.67 trillion soums out of 13.72 trillion soums across the sector. Liabilities stood at 16.1 billion soums for smaller MFIs and 45.5 billion soums for medium-sized organisations.

The Central Bank said that despite the relatively large number of market participants, most microfinance activity is concentrated in organisations with assets exceeding 10 billion soums. The regulator noted that the figures reflect both the scale of Uzbekistan's microfinance services market and its structure.
