Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed the construction of a new tourism centre in Bukhara, a US$105 million project designed to expand the city's tourism infrastructure and provide facilities for major international cultural and business events.
The centre is being built on a 50-hectare site. The project includes a reception house, an exhibition hall, a museum, two modern hotels, 80 family-run guesthouses and an amphitheatre with a capacity of 2,000 people.
Plans also include more than 70 retail and service facilities, pedestrian areas, craft centres and an artificial lake.
The architectural design will combine traditional Bukhara architecture with modern solutions.
Construction is currently focused on laying engineering and utility networks across a 10-hectare area. Around 50 pieces of specialised equipment are involved in the work.
Once fully operational, the centre is expected to create 2,000 jobs and increase the number of tourists visiting Bukhara by 2 million. Annual revenues to the local budget could reach 288 billion soums, according to projections.
During his visit, Mirziyoyev stressed that the project should not only expand tourism infrastructure but also ensure that Bukhara's historical and cultural heritage is properly represented.
He said the development of the complex should help create jobs and increase local residents' incomes through tourism. Officials responsible for the project were instructed to implement it with these objectives in mind.
The president also received briefings on preparations to upgrade Bukhara's infrastructure ahead of summits scheduled for 2027 and issued relevant instructions.
