Uzbekistan Warns of Heavy Rain and Flood Risks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Hydrometeorological Service Agency under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan (UzHydromet) has issued an emergency warning, forecasting intense rainfall in mountainous and foothill areas of the country from April 28 to May 4, which may trigger hazardous hydrometeorological events.
Nine regions are expected to be affected: Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, Navoi, Jizzakh, Tashkent, Namangan, Fergana, and Andijan regions. The industrial cities of Angren and Almalyk in Tashkent region have been identified as particularly vulnerable.
According to the agency, the affected areas may experience mudflows, flash floods, accumulation of rainwater, and localized flooding.
UzHydromet has urged residents of mountainous areas, tourists, and drivers planning trips to high-altitude regions to take precautionary measures.
Specialists recommend avoiding visits to mountain gorges and riverbanks during adverse weather conditions, monitoring official alert channels, and, if necessary, evacuating potentially dangerous areas in advance.
The warning was disseminated through UzHydromet’s official Telegram channel.
